Cody Simpson’s
new song, “Thotful,” will take you the beach. With a Jack Johnson vibe
that might transport you to Hawaii, a reggae tone that will deliver to
the Caribbean, and Cody’s native Australian sun-soaked vocals, no matter
where you are, you’ll be dreaming of the coast.
The 18-year-old singer brushes out an easy melody on his acoustic
guitar — bongos, snare hits and a bubbly bassline put his strumming in
good sonic company. He sings of a girl who’s captivated his heart — and
everyone else’s hearts too.
The song’s title, “Thotful,” is a play on words, I presume. “Thot” is
derogatory slang for a promiscuous lady. His lyrics tell the story of a
woman who thinks about playing everyone, but doesn’t give him the time
of day.
“She’ll be nice to everyone she meets, then she’ll cut them ’til they
bleed,” he sings breezily. “She’s so thotful, but she don’t ever think
about me.”
The song will appear on Simpson’s Free, and follows tracks like “Flower” and “New Problems.”
